Life Transitions

CHANGE IS INEVITABLE... the one thing in the world you can count on. But as Winston Churchill once said, "To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often."

The average American moves 11.7 times in their lifetime. Our mobility means that we're adjusting to new living arrangements on a periodic basis. Whether you're marrying, remarrying, newly single, downsizing, upsizing, gaining children or parents...or letting them go, such transitions are a natural part of life.

I once moved twelve times during a 10-year span. That was a difficult, yet liberating, time in my life when I learned to cast off things that were not really valuable and discovered that I could create a nurturing and comfortable home no matter where I lived. In those days, I adopted Mary Engelbreit's wise quote, "Bloom Where You're Planted"... and that remains my motto to this day.

I've carried over that experience into Makeover Magic for the Everyday Home. Like me, you will find that change, while sometimes stressful, can be a rewarding and growing experience. Here are some of the ways we can help you...

BLENDING HOUSEHOLDS - Don't worry, you're not alone...there are now more than 23 million blended families in the US with 2100 new ones formed each day! I belong to one of them and I know how important it is to honor the histories and interests of both families when combining two households. It isn't easy and it isn't for the faint of heart. But it can be done...with sensitivity and a little bit of Makeover Magic.

My English engineer/musician husband, along with his children, has lived both in Japan and the US Midwest. The prized possessions they brought along with them included traditional antiques, Japanese lacquer and a plethora of guitars... along with about a million CDs!

I, on the other hand, have lived in Arizona all of my adult life and accumulated Native American rugs and baskets, colorful Mexican art and rustic furniture pieces, as well as children of my own.

How did these seemingly disparate pieces (not to mention individual personalities) fit together in a harmonious and designerly fashion? Very carefully, thinking outside the box, using tried and true design principles (plus a little psychology). Call us!

DOWNSIZING - Is it finally time to let go of that white elephant of a house, with its never-ending yardwork and rooms that nobody ever uses?

Moving into a smaller home or condo can take weight off your shoulders and give you a new lease on life (along with more hours for fun!).

But what do you take with you? Grandma's antique bedroom set? Mother's prized collections of dishes and silverware?

Let us help you make those decisions, design rooms that showcase your prized possessions and leave you with a home that's a testament to a life well-lived and well-loved.

EXPANDING HOUSEHOLDS - Expecting an addition to the family? New baby, older parent...or adult children moving back home after you've already transformed their room into your craft room/home office/home gym/art studio?

How do you stretch your existing space to make room for that new arrival or unexpected returnee?

Let the experts help you discover and utilize capacity you never realized you had. Contact us!

SPECIAL NEEDS/FINAL HOME - Yes, the Baby Boomer generation is moving into the Golden Years...sometimes with a few physical differences and limitations added on over the years.

Happily, legislation such as the ADA has led to an ever-expanding choice of homes and products to make our lives easier as we age.

Let us help you navigate the maze and find solutions to accommodate your (or your loved one's) changing physical needs.
